MUCH LIGHT FOR LOW ENERGY.
LED LIGHTING TECHNOLOGY FOR CITIES AND MUNICIPALITIES
Municipalities profit from the retrofitting to LED lighting technology
Since April 2015 mercury vapor lamps and sodium vapor lamps must not be sold any more - according to an EU directive. They are not generally prohibited but they must meet a specified efficiency class.
By retrofitting to modern technologies like LED, municipalities can reduce their energy costs by up to 80%. However, according to a survey carried out by "dena", the municipalities still underestimate their potential for saving money by retrofitting their street lamps. In almost every other municipality, which stated to have a high number of mercury vapor lamps and which stated to have good or excellent expert knowledge available, the amount that can be saved is clearly underestimated.
